Director's Corner

On behalf of the VPA, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe holiday.

With your help and support, the VPA has accomplished a lot this year. We have implemented several new programs already, and will continue our efforts to take the association to the next level during the upcoming year. As we enter 2013, we hope you will think of the VPA as your partner. Let us serve as a resource for you and your business so that you can have your best year ever. We are here to help.

All the best to you and your families in the New Year!

Certified Marketers Council
Meeting Reminder

The Certified Marketers Council meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, December 18, at NHCC. The group will gather to discuss issues related to certification, re-certification, possible revisions of the Standards of Conduct, and various other issues we will face in 2013. The CMC provides members direct access and a voice in steering the direction of the association forward. One of our goals in the upcoming year is to get more marketers certified, and to revise the re-certification program. For more information on how to become certified and take advantage of the benefits of certification please feel free to visit the VPA website, or contact the Executive Director at

Regulatory Alert!

FCC Opt-Out Text Ruling and Holiday Telemarketing Call Restrictions
NOTE: This e-alert is provided for informational purposes only and should not be construed as legal advice. Please consult an attorney for legal advice.

On Nov. 29, the FCC ruled that issuing one-time text messages to consumers to confirm their request to opt out of further text messages does not violate the Telephone Consumer Protection Act or FCC regulations. However, the FCC limited the scope of the opt-out text messages with specific restrictions on applicability.

Also, please be advised of the many December and January holidays and the telemarketing call restrictions that different states have in place.

For more information about the FCC ruling and holiday telemarketing restrictions, please see

Call Storage Program

Dedicated to prosperity and free to all!

The VPA's new call storage program, which is a free service to all participants, creates a "call recording vault." Skyline Graffix, the program developer, has announced they have completed all technological requirements for safety and security, that we're officially up and running, and they have already set up several call centers. This program is an important part of the required due diligence on the part of administrators and finance companies throughout the industry. The VPA will be contacting other call centers to participate, so check future newsletters for updates to this program.

Call Monitoring Program

We are excited to announce that beginning in January, the VPA will partner with BPA Quality, an independent third-party company with over 20 years of experience in the industry, to provide an outsourced call monitoring program. More information will follow in coming newsletters.

Website and Mailer Review Programs

As you may know, one of your member benefits is for the VPA to help ensure you are in compliance with the Standards of Conduct. Helen Mac Murray and MPS Lawyers recently launched the VPA website and mailer review programs to help ensure that member company websites, mailers and other marketing materials comply with the SOC and all applicable state and federal laws. Since the program kicked off, we have assisted several member companies and look forward to helping more. If you have questions, please contact Chris Carenza at

Member Showcase

The VPA Gives Back

The holidays are a time of giving. This month, the VPA will be making a $1,000.00 donation to the Wounded Warriors Program, a nationwide organization which serves to honor and empower injured servicemen and women by providing direct programs and services to meet their needs. The WWP has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to help warriors with invisible and visible wounds as they recover and make the sometimes-difficult transition back to civilian life. The VPA is also pleased to announce that members Omnisure Group and Vehicle Assurance will each make matching $1,000.00 donations to the WWP, so the total donation will be $3,000.00.

The VPA Voice will periodically feature members who have made an effort to give back to the community in one way or another. If you would like your company to be featured here and on the website, please contact Chris Carenza for more information on this member benefit.
