Vehicle Protection Association Offers Members On-Line Learning Program for Recently Approved Standards of Conduct

Sessions will educate member companies on the details of the code of conduct that the VPA has established to protect the best interests of consumers and help members comply with federal and state laws.

Selbyville, DE, December 28, 2009 – The Vehicle Protection Association (VPA), an association formed to promote regulatory transparency, education and accountability in the marketing and servicing of automotive service contracts, announced today that it will be offering its members an on-line learning program for its Standards of Conduct.

The recently approved VPA Standards of Conduct established a code of conduct for VPA member companies, defining how they must operate their businesses to maintain their standing as association members. Membership in the VPA is a signal to consumers that a vehicle service contracts company is protecting consumer interests and abiding by applicable laws and regulations.

The on-line sessions are designed to educate the membership on exactly what is contained in the association standards and what the implications are for member firms. Based on feedback from an initial set of webinars, conducted in October and December, the VPA has decided to extend the program and offer the educational webinars on a regular basis to VPA members in 2010.

A copy of the December Webinar may be found in the Members’-Only Section of the VPA website. A pass-code and ID are necessary to access and download visual portion of the Webinar which is in PDF form.

The on-line education sessions also educates VPA members on the VPA's Certification-Audit Program. VPA Certification is available to VPA members and to non-members. Certification provides consumers with a powerful tool to evaluate the trustworthiness of a vehicle service contract company. To be certified, companies must go through a rigorous compliance review conducted by a third-party. Completion of VPA certification sends a very strong signal to consumers that a company is reputable.

"These industry standards are our guiding principles, and we want to make sure that every single member understands exactly what we are expecting from them," said Larry Hecker, executive director of VPA. "The ultimate goal of our Standards of Conduct and our Certification-Audit Program is to protect the best interests of consumers. By educating our membership, we are working to ensure that there is no excuse for not adhering to our standards, getting certified, and putting the consumer first."
