How to File an Extended Warranty Robocall Complaint

Have you received an automated phone call from a company that is selling "extended car warranties" or vehicle service contracts? If so, we want to know.

The VPA requires that its member companies comply with all applicable telemarketing regulations. You can help us to monitor industry compliance by reporting any automated robocalls from telemarketers who want you to purchase a vehicle service contract.

Definition of a Robocall

A robocall is an automated phone call that uses a computerized autodialer and delivers a pre-recorded message to a large number of people.

How To Report a Robocall

  • Write down the name of the calling company and the phone number (please record the information displayed on your caller ID even if you don't speak with the company rep).
  • Write down the date and time of the phone call.
  • Write down any details of the conversation the name of the rep, the offering, the price, etc.
  • Email the information to us at info@vpainfo.org

What We Will Do

We will investigate the call thoroughly. The first thing we need to do is determine who made the call. Some unethical companies will call you using a different company's name/number for the Caller ID description. As a result, you can't be sure that the company that you think called you is actually the company that called you. We do some investigation to determine, if possible, who actually made the call.

If a member company has violated the telemarketing standards of conduct (which you can find on our website within the VPA Standards of Conduct), we may issue a probationary warning, revoke their VPA certification if they are a certified company and/or revoke their membership in the VPA. We also will inform their partner companies of the infraction, which can result in the company's access to financing being pulled and other actions that can effectively put the company out of business.

We will follow up with you to let you know the results of our investigation. This process can take as long as four weeks.

Other Regulatory Bodies to Notify

The federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 (TCPA) regulates automated calls. You can find more information about telemarketing rules for automated calls and can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by visiting the FTC site.

The Federal Communications Commission also works diligently to crack down on robocalling telemarketers. You can file a complaint with them at the FCC web site.
