Shari Smith-Fain, Vehicle Assurance

Shari Smith-Fain’s dedication and interest in the mission of Every Child’s Hope (ECH) started at home with her parents Jim and Charlotte Smith of Ferguson, Missouri. Jim Smith was a member of the organization’s board of directors and together the family would come to events held on campus.

That tradition continued as Smith-Fain, now the CEO of VPA member company Vehicle Assurance, grew into a young adult. Rather than simply attending events, she joined in planning and leading successful fundraisers to benefit ECH. Additionally, Smith-Fain volunteered countless hours of her time and expertise to help the business and human resources offices at ECH establish one of the best and most competitive employee benefit plans in the St. Louis non-profit community.

In recognition of Smith-Fain’s leadership skills and business acumen, she became a member of the board of directors in 2004. Then in 2010, Smith-Fain was elected board president. Today she continues to lead the staff and board at ECH to provide the highest level of care and services to children and families in need.

ECH’s mission is “partnering with the community to assist children, youth and their families in their individual quest for health and wholeness through quality, faithful, professional services.” They strive to strengthen and encourage children and families to reach their full potential to live healthy, productive, self-sufficient lives.

Conceptually, the services of Every Child’s Hope address the prevention of abuse and neglect, the treatment and rehabilitation for children and families who have experienced abuse and neglect, and aftercare services supporting successful reintegration of children and youth into the community and/or their family environments.

Although the services of ECH have evolved, during its 150-year history as societal needs have changed, the ECH mission remains the same—serving children and families in need.
