Compare Vehicle Service Contracts

When looking for a vehicle service contract, it pays to talk to multiple vendors and to compare vehicle service contracts before you finalize your purchase.

After all, you want to make sure you are getting all of the coverage benefits that you desire, right? The only way to do this is to thoroughly review your vehicle service contract.

As you read through it, you will see that your vehicle service contract will have all the exact details of your vehicle protection.

As you read through contracts from different vehicle service providers, make a list of the contracts' features. Across the top of your list, put the different vendors. Then, put a check beneath the vendor's name in the row for a given feature, if the vendor offers that feature in their contract. This can also be done in a spreadsheet on your computer, if you are a fan of spreadsheets.

Once you complete your document, it's much easier to compare the vehicle service contracts from two different vendors. Prioritize what you are looking for in a vehicle service contract -- and things you want to avoid -- and then choose the vendor that is best for you.

It's a good idea to start with a reputable list of vendors. We recommend that you work with VPA Certified Vendors because they have undergone rigorous third-party evaluations to ensure that they are in compliance with industry standards. These VPA members are dedicated to protecting automotive consumers and providing exceptional customer service.

Note to Consumers

Consumers often come to this page after searching for "how to compare extended auto warranties" and other similar phrases. The phrase "extended auto warranty" is technically incorrect, and firms that refer to vehicle service contracts as "extended warranties" are not in compliance with the VPA's industry standards of conduct.
