Car Owners Turn to Vehicle Service Contracts from Vehicle Protection Association Members to Extend the Life of Their Vehicles

VPA members offer consumers a range of automotive service contract options to fit their needs.

ST. LOUIS – July 17, 2012 – Consumers looking to protect their vehicles have the option of purchasing a vehicle service contract from a VPA-certified member. The Vehicle Protection Association, or VPA, is the leading authority for the automotive service contract industry.

Vehicle service contracts, sometimes erroneously referred to as extended auto warranties, are designed to protect consumers against unwanted and costly repairs to their vehicle. Specifically, a vehicle service contract helps cover the cost of certain repairs or replacements, potentially including parts and labor, that may be required after a manufacturers warranty expires.

Whereas an extended auto warranty is offered by a new car dealer, a vehicle service contract can be purchased from a third party at any time. Consumers interested in a service contract should opt for one from a VPA-certified vendor. VPA members have agreed to abide by state and federal rules and regulations in accordance with standards set by the Vehicle Protection Association.

"Consumers can best protect themselves by working with companies that fully comply with the law," said Helen MacMurray, legal counsel to the VPA. "VPA-certified companies complete a rigorous audited compliance program that establishes that their business practices comply with all state and federal laws. Consumers should look for the VPA certified company logo when choosing a vehicle service contract."

Consumers should be wary of third parties that make false representations and use deceptive practices in their marketing ads and sales pitches.
